Since opening in June 1990, Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose has welcomed over 8.3 million visitors. Our striking 52,000 sq.ft. purple building, designed by Mexico City-based architect Ricardo Legorreta, signals the Museum’s purpose: to serve the needs of children, families and schools as a center for learning and discovery.
Each year our talented team of educators and designers respond to children’s diverse educational needs by bringing new interactive exhibits to life. With the addition of the West Wing in 1997, the Museum expanded its size by 20 percent, and with the addition of The Builder Building in 2015 we’ve added another 3,200 sq. ft. Now we have plans to expand outdoors. Bill’s Backyard will be a 27,500 sq. ft. outdoor play space that will be a bridge to nature for our community’s children and families.
